Small Group Questions - Weekend of August 23

Group Opener:

Share one thing in creation that reminds you of God.

Group Questions:

  1. What does it mean to really forgive someone?

  1. What are some of the unhealthy things that creep into our hearts when we refuse to forgive others?

  1. Read Romans 5:8.  Think for a moment about the past sins in your life.  How does it make you feel knowing God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to be the pardon for this sin long before you responded to him?

  1. Read Luke 7:36-47.  Who can you relate to in this story? Why?

  1. How does our ability to forgive others hinge partly on realizing our personal need for forgiveness from God?

  1. Why do you think it’s it harder to forgive someone when they have done something we may have done in the past but no longer struggle with?

  1. Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-15.  How can we grow to have “Christ’s love” be part of our motive in forgiving others?

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other?  Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.

As we spend some time in prayer, let’s also ask God to show us who we need to forgive and for his help following through.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives. My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
