Small Group Questions - Weekend of July 5

Group Opener:

Describe the best July 4th celebration you’ve been a part of. What did you do? Where were you at? What made it so memorable?

Group Questions:

  1. Review Luke 14:27-33. Share things from Abe’s message that stood out to you. What did you connect with? What did you learn?

  1. Do you think Christians usually consider the cost of following Christ? Explain your answer.

  1. Read Philippians 3:8. What does Paul proclaim in this verse? How is this connected to what Abe talked about?

  1. What obstacles get in the way of someone renouncing everything and following Jesus?

  1. How can we come alongside people who are thinking about following Christ? Or those who have recently committed to following Him?

  1. Read 1 John 2:3-6. As Christ-followers, we are supposed to “walk in the same way in which he walked” (v. 6) In other words, we learn to identify ourselves with Him. What does this look like on a practical level?

    1. John 8:31
    2. John 13:35

    1. John 17:20-23
    2. Any other passages that come to mind

  1. As you pray, ask God to reveal to you how you can better imitate Christ. You can also ask Him to help you get through any obstacles hindering you from fully surrendering everything to Christ. Perhaps end by praying Ephesians 3:14-21 together.

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other?  Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.

As we spend some time in prayer, let’s also ask God to show us what He wants from us and then the willingness on our parts to be obedient to what He is asking of us.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
