Small Group Questions - Weekend of June 28

Group Opener:

Who is the best listener you know? What makes them a good listener?

Group Questions:

  1. What tends to get in the way of our listening to someone?

  1. How do those same things affect our relationship with God?

  1. Read Ecclesiastes 5:1-2. What does this passage teach us about listening and words?

  1. What kinds of “foolish sacrifices” do we try to offer God? What types of situations cause us to be “rash” with our mouths in prayer?

  1. Read Luke 10:38-42. What is the “better” thing that Mary chose? How can we make similar choices? (Be specific!)

  1. How can we eliminate the distractions that often come when we try to listen to God? (Be as specific and personal as possible. This is your chance to connect it to your everyday life.)

  1. How can we be sure that what we’re hearing is from God? (If you get stuck on this one, take time this next week to search the Scriptures and ask friends for good principles to follow, to test what we’re hearing.)

  1. As you spend time in prayer, ask God for discerning minds (to know His voice) and a willingness to hear His heart.

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other?  Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.

As we spend some time in prayer, let’s also ask God to show us what he wants from us and then the willingness on our parts to be obedient to what he is asking of us.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
