Small Group Questions - Weekend of January 24

Group Opener:

What is your latest favorite movie?

Group Questions:

  1. What did we learn about the heart this week? Is that a new idea to you?

  1. Read Galatians 2:11-14. Why did Paul confront Peter (Cephas)? What was the danger in Peter’s behavior?

  1. How might Peter have justified his behavior? How do we justify our wrong behavior?

  1. What is it that makes it difficult for us to receive correction or “tough love” from others?

  1. What is our responsibility in confronting others about their sin? (This is a tough one. Use passages like Matthew 18:15-17, 1 Corinthians 5:12, 1 Timothy 5:19-20, and James 5:19-20 to guide your discussion.)

  1. Read 2 Timothy 3:16. What role does Scripture play in this?

  1. Do you look at the Bible from that viewpoint? Do you allow His Words to show you where you are in sin?

  1. As you read Scripture, what are the things that you’re thinking about? What are some questions you can ask as you read to better understand how God wants us to behave?

  1. Use the following verses to guide your time in prayer. You may want to spend some time in silence for confession and repentance.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other? Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other. Then spend time asking God to continue working in your life to make you more like Christ, and listening to see what He might be asking you to change.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
