Small Group Questions - Weekend of January 17

Group Opener:

What was a highlight for you this past week?

Group Questions:

  1. Review Proverbs 7:6-27. What stood out from this Sunday’s message? Were you challenged to think differently about something? Surprised by anything?

  1. The man from Proverbs 7 made several poor choices, leading to a very dangerous path. We often do the same. How can we be more aware of the path we’re on?

  1. Read Proverbs 7:1-3.  The Bible is one way we can be more intentional about the path we’re on. What does it look like for us to “treasure” His Word? To “bind [His commandments] on our fingers” and “write them on the tablet of our heart”?

  1. Proverbs 7:2 says, “Keep my commandments and live.”

    1. Read Deuteronomy 32:47 and Psalm 119:93. How does His Word give us life?
    2. Read John 1:1, 14. Who is the Word? Why is this significant?
    3. Read John 10:10. Jesus came to give us life, while the “thief” comes to steal and destroy. What role might the Bible play in this?
    4. Considering the verses above, we can say the following:

Word = Life = Jesus

It’s ALL about Jesus!

Jesus “is the way (the path), and the truth (the Word), and the life” (John 14:6).

  1. God guides us along the right path through His Word – both (1) the Bible, the written Word, and (2) Jesus Christ, the Word Incarnate. Pray that God would give you a deeper hunger and passion for His Word, that His Word would be “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other? Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other. Then spend time asking God to continue working in your life to make you more like Christ, and listening to see what He might be asking you to change.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
