Group Opener:

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions? If so, what?

Group Questions:

  1. What often gets in the way of our following through on resolutions and other commitments/goals?

  1. Have different people look up the following passages and make a chart to show the relationship between sowing and reaping. What do you notice?

Sow

Reap

Job 4:8

Proverbs 11:8

Proverbs 22:8

Hosea 10:12-13

2 Corinthians 9:6

Galatians 6:7-8

  1. How can you sow seeds of righteousness and godliness? What does that look like?

  1. Read Proverbs 22:6. How can we “sow seeds” for others in our lives (i.e., children, nieces or nephews, students, coworkers)? Be as specific as you can, and brainstorm how you can do this individually as well as a group. It might help to remember how others have “sowed seed” in you – parents, mentors, coaches.

  1. This week, try to be more aware of your habits and routines to see what type of seeds you are sowing. Ask God to show you any negative “seeds” you need to stop sowing so you can more fully pursue Him.

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other? Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other. Then spend time asking God to continue working in your life to make you more like Christ, and listening to see what He might be asking you to change.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
