Small Group Questions - Weekend of January 3
|
|
Group
Opener:
How did you first get involved with WCC?
Group Questions:
- Read
Matthew 22:34-40. This is a passage we hear often at WCC. Why?
- The
Pharisees were trying to trick Jesus with their question about the
greatest commandment, pushing Him to choose one and leave the others out
as less important. Is there one commandment we tend to favor over
others?
- Read Matthew
19:16-22. What kind of attitude do you think this young man approached
Christ with? Do you think he was genuine in his question or not? Why?
- The
rich young man seems to think that he only has to keep some of the commandments to have
eternal life. We tend to pick and choose what commandments we obey, as
well. Which ones do we tend to ignore? This might be awkward to say
out loud, but try to be as specific as you can.
- Though
the young man kept many of the commandments, there was one thing he knew
he should do, but didn’t. What was it? Why was it important that he do
this “one thing”?
- Is
there anything you know you should do, but are hesitating to do? Is
there anything keeping you from following God with all of your heart,
soul, and mind?
- Read Deuteronomy
30:6. What is so encouraging about this verse? How have you seen God
change your heart this past year? Celebrate those changes as a group.
Prayer Time:
What are some specific ways we can
be praying for each other? Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests
with each other.
As we look to a new year, pray about
how you and your group can love God and love others more deeply. Is there a
particular subject He is leading you to study? Is there a volunteer opportunity
where you can serve together?
Notes for your prayer time:
There is nothing wrong with praying
for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so. It is easy however to pray for all kinds of
things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.
My desire is to make sure we have
some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in
each of us. – Scott Nieveen
Thanks for the role you play in providing a place
for people to experience community while pursuing God!
