Small Group Questions - Weekend of November 8

Group Opener:

What is one hope or desire you have for this holiday season?

Group Questions:

  1. How did Denny redefine hope? Do you agree or disagree with this?

  1. Read Jeremiah 14:13-18. What do the lying prophets proclaim to Israel? How does God respond?

  1. What happens to the people who put their hope in the words of the lying prophets? What happens to us when we put our hope in anything/anyone other than God?

  1. Continue reading in Jeremiah 14, through verse 22. The Israelites confess their sins and the sin of their fathers. What role does confession play in our relationship with God?

  1. Reread verse 22. Who do they set their hope on? What sets God apart? What might this look like, practically speaking?

  1. What does it mean for us to set our hope on God?

  1. Read Hebrews 10:23-25. What do we learn about God in this passage? How can we encourage each other to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering”?

  1. Pray that God would make your hope in Him more confident and steadfast – persevering through even the hard times. This week, read through Hebrews 11 for some “mentors” in this area.

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other?  Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.

As you spend some time in prayer, continuing seeking His guidance in understanding the Parable of the Prodigal Son. What is He trying to teach you?

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
