Small Group Questions - Weekend of November 1
|
|
Group
Opener:
What is your favorite childhood story? Why?
Group Questions:
- Review
the Parable of the Prodigal Son. What about these past couple of messages
has stood out to you? (Something you were reminded of… something you never
knew before…)
- Tim
Keller wrote, “Though the older son stayed at home, he was actually more
distant and alienated from the father than his brother, because he was
blind to his true condition.” How are we like the older brother? How are we
blind?
- Read
Luke 15:25-32. Have you have been angry and refused to join in something
that should have been a joyous occasion?
What made you so angry?
- What do
we often feel entitled to, as Christ-followers? Is there a biblical basis
for these beliefs?
- Shane
Barnard wrote, “Just as the parabolic father waits for his sons – both of
them, in their mutual misunderstanding and ungratefulness – with open
arms, so God stands before us, those both lost and those who forget that
they are found. He stands and offers us His very presence…. I realize how
sad He must be when we fail to see Him.”
- Why do
you think it’s so easy for believers to “fail to see Him”?
- What
can we do to begin to see Him more clearly and more frequently?
- Commit
to reading through this parable every day during this series. Pray through
it, chew on it, ask questions, and see what God has to teach you over the
next couple of weeks.
Prayer Time:
What are some specific ways we can
be praying for each other? Take a few
minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.
As you spend some time in prayer, use
Psalm 73:25 as your guide. Ask Him to make you hungry for Him.
Notes for your prayer time:
There is nothing wrong with praying
for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so. It is easy however to pray for all kinds of
things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.
My desire is to make sure we have
some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in
each of us. –Scott Nieveen
Thanks for the role you play in providing a place
for people to experience community while pursuing God!
