Small Group Questions - Weekend of October 25

Group Opener:

Who has been one of the biggest influences in your life? How?

Group Questions:

  1. What role does church tend to play in the life of a believer? What role should it play?

  1. What has been your experience with the church? Why do you currently attend worship services?

  1. Matt described the Pharisees as (1) being concerned about keeping pure, (2) lessening the impact of the Roman culture on their own, and (3) thinking that they were doing God’s work. How are we like the Pharisees?

  1. Read Luke 15:11-32. What is your initial response to this parable? How do you think the Pharisees responded to this when they heard it?

  1. Who do you relate to – the younger brother or the older one? Why?

  1. If you had to summarize this parable in one statement, what would it be?

  1. Matt defined sin as “anything we do or don’t do to hurt our relationship with another person or with God.” What do you think about that definition?

  1. How do we hurt our relationships with other people? With God?

  1. When we realize that we’ve sinned, how are we to respond?

Prayer Time:

What are some specific ways we can be praying for each other?  Take a few minutes to share your prayer requests with each other.

As you spend some time in prayer, ask God to show you how you hurt your relationships with others and with Him. Then ask Him to help you change.

Notes for your prayer time:

There is nothing wrong with praying for each other’s requests and you can continue to do so.  It is easy however to pray for all kinds of things that aren’t related to applying God’s truth to our lives.

My desire is to make sure we have some of our prayers focused around the life-change God desires to take place in each of us.  Scott Nieveen

Thanks for the role you play in providing a place for people to experience community while pursuing God!
